Sylvie Vartan

Names familiar but not heard her voice till now...so off the "Wikipedia"to find out more info!!

Great what you can find on there...wish it was there in the 50's it would have saved me walking from record shop to record shop looking for information because itn those days it seems that I always was interested in the obscure recordings that nobody had heard of !!.....after listening to it I like her voice and production is typical 50's 60's style !! Grrrrreat !!!

Sylvie Vartan (born Sylvie Georges Vartanian; 15 August 1944) is a French singer and actress. She is known as one of the most productive and tough-sounding yé-yé artists. Her performances often featured elaborate show-dance choreography, and she made many appearances on French and Italian TV. Yearly shows with then-husband Johnny Hallyday attracted full houses at the Olympia and the Palais des congrès de Paris throughout the 1960s and mid-1970s. In 2004, after a break in performances, she began recording and giving concerts of jazz ballads in francophone countries.

  1. Very well known by me since I was 10-12 years old. I saw her twice in live concerts. She had a stunning
beauty when she was younger, she still looks very well. She has a deep voice and she´s able to reach very low notes for a female singer, in this aspect I can only compare her voice with Cher´s voice.
Sylvie Vartan sounds better in French than in English, Spanish, Italian or any other language in which she has recorded.
She is the most enduring and influential of the Yé Yé girls, together with Françoise Hardy which
I´d place as second to Sylvie. Sylvie Vartan is comparable, among the Yé Yé boys, with the also influential 1st husband Johnny Hallyday. I saw them on stage, together they were fire on scene.
I don´t know if she had a break in performances. She had a break in recording since 99 to 2004. Her 2010 album "Soleil Bleu", far from being her best selling one, has been considered by most music critics the best of her whole career. It was followed by "Sylvie in Nashville" (2013), Une vie en musique (2015).
She will be 73 next august and she continues her career.
    Thanks for your post!
