Here's "Our Shirl" early on in her singing career when she still had her tonsils !!....Luckily it didn't alter her voice maybe it went a bit deeper but the power is still there to this day !!
A beautiful set of songs that was a "Preface" of what was to come !

But in my humble opinion this is one of them!!....Maybe its because most of the songs are well known and popular....that does make a difference I am sure and of course the arrangements of the songs can make it as well...Soooooooo congratulations to "Johnny Harris" for a job well done...also I suppose "Dame Shirl" had her say in it as well !!

On July 8 th. 1974 Shirley Bassey performed at Kosei-Nenkin Kaikan Hall in Tokyo. The concert was recorded for televison and probably only broadcast in Japan. Here we have songs from that concert: Goldfinger, Sing, Diamonds Are Forever, Day By Day, Yesterday When I was Young (her biggest hit ever in Japan) Something. The concert was released on a double-LP but only in Japan. Probably because it came just a year after the release of “Live at Carnegie Hall”, which featured a very similar track listing to “Live in Japan”.

Here's a very young "Shirl" recording and it evokes great memories for me from the late 50's seeing her at the start of her career at our local "Variety" Venue "The Palace" which unfortunately is now no longer there in its place is "Argos" and a Car Park !!!...I wish we had the Conservationists that we have now, in the 50's I'm sure that a lot of the great buildings that The "Council" in their wisdom got demolished would still be with us !!!...Ok Rant over back to "Dame Shirl" I would guess that these recordings would be some of the first that she recorded on the "Phillips" Label including her Hit "As I Love You "....Her Voice is now completely different owing to a throat operation later on and also with age the voice does change even those who can't sing like me !!!

This Lady or should I say Dame has never made a bad L/P....just some are better than others...this one is a so so...that means its ok the first side is a bit on the slow side maybe because most of the tracks are not well known a couple are but it's Shirley in a subdued mood...the second side is much better with our Shirl definitely being "Shirley Bassey"...And I just love the cover I think that's its a great photo...That's one of the reasons I  bought the L/P !!

Its amazing how time flies by !!...Its been 62 Years since "Our Shirl"recorded this L/P with the "Nelson Riddle Orch"seems like only yesterday we were being "Wowed" by "I Who Have Nothing" "Goldfinger" and the title Song of the L/P "What Now My Love"....Its "Shirley" in a quiet gentle mode and its great to hear all the standards sung with such perfection !!

This one from "Dame Shirl"was recorded in "Vancouver"or at least the vocals were and it seems that the music was recorded and mixed in "Hollywood"...so it tells us on the back sleeve !!!......Now that to me is a bit disillusioned....I always imagine that a great singer like Shirley would want to have the orchestra at the back of her and record it "Live".....But I suppose that this goes on quite a bit when the two factors can't be in the recording studio at the same time.....It does not deter the fact that this is still a great L/P with some great tracks and "Shirl" in in a quieter mode.....Hey Ho !!...the wonders of technology go on and on and on !!!

It's 1965 in London in Piccadilly Circus at "The Pigalle" a very in place at that time and Shirley was booked for an 8 week engagement...this is the opening night !!!!
Today if you go to "The Pigalle" you get...Quote !!
