Eydie Gorme.

Along with "Eydie Vamps The Roaring Twenty's" this is my favourite Eydie L/P...This is what you call Mood Music and she sings brilliantly !!!! 
Yes this cover is worn and battered so you know what that means... "Yep" correct a favourite once more....Its one to remember... I did read somewhere that she won an award for it... and if she did it is worth it...not got a favourite track because everyone is a gem!!....Having said that I just love "Why Try To Change Me Now"...not because of the way she sings it but the lyrics blow me away....This was recorded in 1958....61 years ago...Another brilliant vocalist that was taken from us too soon !!

This lady has the knack of singing that makes you think that it's as easy as pie to just open your mouth and a perfect noise comes out....She makes singing seem simple....BUT as we who can't sing and many people who actually can know that that is not that simple...You have to be born with a vocal voice and usually it takes years of hard work and practice to be a good singer....And BOY Eydie has just done that !!...she tackles these songs with hardly any effort at all making an excellent L/P for all "Gorme" fans...All the tracks are good and if you can read the back cover it gives you an insight to the songs..

 This is one of those L/P's that the record company fails on delivery !!...what I  mean is when I first saw and bought this L/P I was expecting some "live performances" of Eydie's.... instead on it is a selection of "Standards"....although I have said before that Eydie has never made a bad L/P this one is a mediocre one....NOW whether or not I have been initalialy disapointed by it and it has influenced my judgement I don't know....But there does seem to be something missing !!!.....Would be interested in other peoples opinon as I know there are quite a few "Eydie Gorme" fans out there !!!...so come on people let me know what you think !!

 I believe that this is the first L/P on the English HMV label that Eydie recorded in 1957...a great selection of songs including one of the few songs that gives me goose bumps and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up !!...I'm talking about "Guess Who I Saw Today"...Eydie's version is definitely the definitive version.....and take a listen to the vocal gymnastics at the end of"I'll Take Romance"!!! an A1 ace L/P !!!

Another torn and battered cover but it's what is on the inside that matters...I think that Eydie Gorme along with Keely Smith are two of the most underrated singers we have today...okay I should think that at this point in time 2011 their voices will be past their best...BUT in the 50's 60's &70's boy could they sing...Just listen to the clarity of Eydie's voice on "Tea For Two"....OK song and style are a bit dated but can any female singer of now can be as clear as her...takes all my time to hear the words of some of the songs of today.

P.S. As you can see the above comments were made by me in 2011 when Eydie was still with us...These are some of the first recordings that she made and although they have released most of them on a CD compilation I believe that this L/P version even though it was recorded about 1958 making it 66 years old to be far more "Real"and clearer than the CD version even taking into consideration the "Snap Crackles & Pops"......Of course that is only MY opinion.....sooooooo the only way to agree or disagree with me is "Download" and have a listen !!!

 Here is another Eydie Gorme release...Originally it was called "Love Is A Season".....but for some reason WRC decided to change it !!...BUT the back sleeve is for "Love Is A Season"...strange aint' it.....I don't think that Eydie has made a bad L/P or even an indifferent one she just belts them out and sings with feeling on all the slow songs one of our best singers since she started !!

I did buy most of Eydie Gorme's L/P's this one got away!!...so I thank Bob once again for it...Two of her really Great And I will say that again in Capital letters GREAT GREAT Tracks are on this namely "What Did I Have That I Don't Have" And "If He Walked into My Life"....Doesn't get any better than that !!!...check YouTube I think there is a video where she sings one of them...will have to check later and post it...If it's still there !!!

I think that there might be a pressing fault on the first side of this L/P or someone has played it with a knitting needle!!!....She has a hiss on all the words that begin with "S"....so to quote one of her tracks on here "I'm Sorry".....It was'nt new when I got it so I could'nt return it to the shop for a replacement....the second side is okay...Apart from that Eydie does a good job going "Country Style"


P.S. I think CBS should have titled this "Gorme Swings Country Style" !!!!
