Santana

A few years after forming in San Francisco, an appearance at Woodstock propelled Santana into the spotlight, and their first three albums were tremendously popular. The group was the first to intelligently combine Latin American music with rock 'n' roll (no, "La Bamba" doesn't count), and Carlos Santana, the band's namesake, is a terrific lead guitarist - heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix but with his own distinctive sound and approach, tightly focused and cleanly articulated. After a brief commercial and artistic peak, the band continued to pump out records through the Seventies and early Eighties. Then, Carlos Santana went through a low-key solo period, and subsequently hit new heights on the pop charts with a series of star-studded collaboration records.

Santana !
The primary exponent of Latin-tinged rock, particularly due to their combination of Latin percussion (congas, timbales, etc.) with bandleader Carlos Santana's distinctive, high-pitched lead guitar playing.

Steely Dan

Steely Dan is an American rock band founded by core members Walter Becker (guitars, bass, backing vocals) and Donald Fagen (keyboards, lead vocals) in 1972. Throughout their career, the duo recorded with a revolving cast of session musicians, and in 1974 retired from live performances to become a studio-only band. The members were: Holly Johnson (vocals), Paul Rutherford (vocals/keyboards), Peter Gill (drums), Mark O'Toole (bass) and Brian Nash (guitar). The group initially called themselves "Hollycaust", but soon changed the name to Frankie Goes to Hollywood (this peculiar moniker was inspired by an old newspaper headline about Frankie Vaughan's acting career). The group's music was distinguished by racy lyrics, pulsating beats, slick arrangements, and homo-erotic music videos.

Peter Paul & Mary

If we had a DeLorean we would find ourselves in 1967 !!

Peter, Paul and Mary was an American folk group formed in New York City in 1961, during the American folk music revival phenomenon. The trio was composed of tenor Peter Yarrow, baritone Noel Paul Stookey and contralto Mary Travers. The group's repertoire included songs written by Yarrow and Stookey, early songs by Bob Dylan as well as covers of other folk musicians. After the death of Travers in 2009, Yarrow and Stookey continued to perform as a duo under their individual names.
In December 1969 "Leaving on a Jet Plane", written by the group's friend John Denver, became their only No. 1 single (as well as their final top 40 pop hit) and the group's sixth million-selling gold single. The track first appeared on their million-selling platinum certified Album 1700 in 1967 (which also contained their No. 9 hit "I Dig Rock and Roll Music").
