The Sandpipers

The Sandpipers were an American easy listening trio who carved a niche in 1960s folk rock with their vocals and innovative arrangements of international ballads and pop standards. They are best remembered for their cover version of "Guantanamera", which became a transatlantic Top 10 hit in 1966, and their Top 20 hit "Come Saturday Morning" from the soundtrack of the film The Sterile Cuckoo in 1970.

Sorry for all the scratches snaps crackles and pops on this L/P..Its one of a few I lent out years ago and they were returned like it...even the covers were ripped had to get the above from "google" but couldn't find the back....That was a lesson I learned not to lend out L/P's !!
It is of course the soundtrack from the film complete with all the orchestration tracks
Sinatra sings on 6 tracks Kim Novac on 2 and Rita Hayworth on 2....Its a good memory of a classic film !!

P.S. Did find the back but not a very good one !!

Les Elgart

Some well known songs / tunes with a Twist !!

Lester Elliott Elgart (August 3, 1917 – July 29, 1995, Dallas, Texas) was an American swing jazz bandleader and trumpeter.
American swing band leader, formerly lead trumpet player for the orchestras of Bunny Berigan, Charlie Spivak and Hal McIntyre. In 1945, Les formed his own organisation in Brooklyn, New York, in tandem with his alto saxophonist-playing brother Larry Elgart. The band, its theme song being "Sophisticated Swing", featured superior arrangements by Bill Finegan and a young Nelson Riddle. It enjoyed a measure of popular success -- until the Musician's Union recording strike and personal rivalry between the brothers caused a break-up. Les and Larry went their separate ways, but neither managed to succeed on their own. They re-formed in 1953, with breezy new arrangements by Charles Albertine and an emphasis on ensemble sound, rather than solos. This melodic approach proved popular and album sales (recording contract with Columbia) boomed. The Les Elgart Orchestra performed at many top venues.

Shirley Bassey.

Here's some of Shirley's recordings from the early 60's....I thought that I had heard most of her recordings at some point in time....But no... a great recording of "In Other Words" which I had not heard before and it preludes what a great singer she was to become !!

Here's a strange different and wonderful double L/P....full of Dialogue & songs from 50 films from 1926 till 1949 made by Warner Bros....I guess it wont be everybodys cup of tea but its a great nostalgic romp of yesteryear....Its a pity that there are no gaps in the tracks so I had to record them as Side 1-4...and you will have to check the playing list to get what films the track is from....nothing I could do about that the tracks are too close together to separate them.....The L/P sleeve has a 12 page booklet inside that is full of pictures and information on the films featured... very difficult to scan otherwise I would have tried to scan some pages....be interested to have some comments from people who decide to give it go and a listen......

Side One                                                         Side Two                              Side Three

      Side Four
I hope everybody who downloads this unusual L/P enjoys it as much as I do.....Takes a little bit of sorting out because of the lack of tracks definition but keep with it and you should enjoy the experience !!!..The size of the file is 270MB....so it might take a while to download but bear with it ..it will be worth it !!!..

Petula Clark

Here's Pet at the very start of her singing career....songs from Films she made with the Huggets
I believe are the first few tracks, so they are not too good sound wise...but enjoyable if your a fan of Petula Clark !!

This anthology of her complete early singles is a detailed analysis of her Polygon recordings made between 1949 and 1955, which were also released on Esquire in Australia and Melodi in Denmark. By 1956 she would be recording for Nixa, and this would lead to her Pye, Vogue, and Warner Brothers recordings of the late '50s and early to middle '60s. Petula Clark was a ubiquitous teenaged movie star during the 1940s and early '50s, sometimes working with young Julie Andrews. Indeed, on some of these records Petula sounds a lot like Julie, or (dare one say it?) Mary Poppins. That's because the material is predominately light, happy-go-lucky innocent pop.

On this first post of 28 tracks which cover all of her original Polygon 78s lovingly re-mastered for the first time in one collection. In addition there are rare sides from Columbia and Decca, as well as rare overseas releases. From child star to her heyday and still performing today, six decades later! Petula Clark is a true icon of the music business.
