A Camp Of Pleasure...The Berkeley Scottish Players.

A Camp of Pleasure – Ancient & Modern Music  ( The Berkeley Scottish Players formed in 1973-74 and first performed in public in October 1975 with a seminal performance at the San Francisco Branch Weekend in Burlingame. . In 1976 the band became the first American band to record and LP album. Now, 25 years later, this historic album is still influencing dancers and musicians, and most of the greater family of the Berkeley Scottish Players, though widely dispersed, can still be spotted playing a Scottish tune upon occasion.

The music on the recording is lively but in strict tempo, and the band brings a
wealth of instruments & talent into play. The basic band consists of 3
fiddles, flute, piano, guitar and bass. There are also individual solos
using the viola, the hammered dulcimer & banjo from the American musical
tradition, and the Hardanger fiddle from Norway. It is the unique way in
which the musicians present their solo voices & luscious harmonies that is most pleasing. The haunting solos by the viola in the Red House are
among the best solos, making the Red House one of the best
recordings ever of a Reel......and this L/P has some of the best-ever-recorded music for modern Scottish Country Dancing.....
