The Good Time Singers

Not heard of these singers before...So here is  some info from the WWWeb !!

Here's the great recording of the Good Time Singers' new, Big Time style!
They've taken the best sounds from folk and country music plus the best sounds from rock 'n' roll and bluegrass, and they've created something new and exciting to hear. They call it "Folkabilly Rockgrass" and it's a wonderfully new way of playing and singing anything from a great Broadway show tune to a traditional old folk ballad.

Audiences far and wide have raved about the Good Time Singers on their tours with Mitzi Gaynor and with the Beverly Hillbillies of TV, and in their sensational television appearances on the Andy Williams Show. Andy has invited them back for a second season of Good Time Singing, and you'll hear why when you listen to this album. They get a great new sound from the day's top musical styles that is ONE STEP MORE THAN THE MOST!

This one is going to be a bit hard to tell what it's all about....I suppose you could call it "Classical" but it's not... certainly has a classical feel about it and again it gets a bit "Jazzy"and then a bit "Funky"and then in certain parts you would swear that you was listening to the "Shadows" overall it's a mixture of "Styles".....Think "ELO" and"Tubular Bells" and you may get some idea whats it all about !!!couldn't record track by track because the music blended between tracks so I had to record Side One then Side Two....but you can see from the back sleeve all the tracks are "Variations"...hence the name !!

Now as you know I like Piano Music but I was a little disapointed in this L/P...The arangements were good and the piano playing was good not a dropped note BUT it lacked that certain "Magic" & "Spark"!!!....Like you have the "Honky Tonk" of the "Winifred Attwell" the "Brilliance"& "Originality" of "Peter Nero" and not forgetting the "Jazz Hands" of "Andre Previn" and even the "Sing A Long" of "Russ Conway"......No doubt they are hundreds or probably millions of fans of  "Richard's" that will disagree with me !!!....But I would have liked a bit more OOMPH !!!

Earl Bostic.320 Kbps

The first "Jazz" 78rpm that I bought when I was in my teens was "Earl Bostic's Flamingo"
of course didn't realise at the time that it was a Jazz Record I just liked the rasping sound of the Alto Sax...It was on a "Vogue" label and as I said a very brittle 78rpm and they did break very easy...I think it lasted about a couple of years before it got smashed up with a load more when I was taking some of them to play at a mates house on my bike and I fell of my bike and they shattered all over the road....didn't have the comfort of a car in those days !!...Anyway back to the L/P most of the tracks are well known songs and are all played in the "Earl Bostic" rasping Alto Sax sound so no surprises track of course is "Flamingo" which to me is as fresh sounding today as it was in the 50's...
