Carrying on with the gentle theme this one is relaxing as well...love the slight accent of the singers on some of the tracks...But you have to listen very carefully to get it !!...some of the tracks are in "German" so you folks in "Germany"will be able to join in on the chorus's....best track IMHO is "Put A Little Love In Your Heart"!!

Bette Midler.

This I believe is Bette's first L/P partly produced by her then pianist a certain "Barry Manilow"....I bought it because of the track "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"and thought at the time that she had a so-so voice sounding like so many other singers....Apart from "Boogie" I thought her tracks with all the girl chorus's and loads going on were a bit much of a row and I still have that opinion and can't think why she decided to do a repeat track of "Friends"which is the worst on the L/P !!!...SAYING THAT !!!...I think that the tracks were she sings on her own are great and "Superstar" is one of the best versions around today....And I did get to like the L/P a lot "Hello In There" is superb so is "Am I Blue"and I wish she had carried on "Delta Dawn" on her own !!!.....So here is one L/P that earns the title "The More You Play It The Better It Becomes"

Lita Roza

Here is a great L/P by a classy lady... love the arrangments particular on "The Other Woman"
Nina Simone done a great job with it on her Album "Nina At The Town Hall"....Lita's version I recon equals it...I remember meeting her in the 50's even bought her a coffee in a coffee bar after she had done a concert at our local concert hall....She was one of the singers with the "Ted Heath Band" along with "Dickie Valentine & Dennis Lotis"....They were in the pub along with most of the band members...Ah sweet memories !!...Anyway back to reality...I also have most of the tracks on a compilation CD....BUT they have mucked about with the sound.. the clarity in her voice seems to be missing and also if you notice they seemed to have recorded her with a very slight echo...that's missing and all of the tracks seem to be flat...If anybody is interested in hearing the difference I will be glad to post it..This L/P was recorded in 1958 !!

P.S. great to find a video from YouTube of one of the tracks below....Pity there is not more!!..This is also a great L/P that does get played loads of times even now 62 Years later !!!

Nina Simone.

Here is Nina at her singing best and includes a couple of tracks of her on the piano proving just how good a pianist she was....This compilation by "Polydor" includes some of her great tracks...When I first bought this L/P I thought maybe it was some re-recordings that she had made at some time in her career but no they seem to be the original "Bethlehem" recordings....Just checked on "Google" and it seems that it is the first L/P that Nina did for "Bethlehem Records"just re-released with one track missing by "Polydor"....So enjoy a great unique voice !

Anne Shelton

I wish I had taken more care of the sleeves of my L/P's cos' this one is falling to pieces hence the Sellotape around the edges but after 50 odd years it peels off leaving a yellow stain as you can see...that's the adhesive dried out....But that does not make any difference to the contents of the record...A fantastic one is this... Anne Shelton at her peak and sounding great....Now where are all the Classy English singers of today they seemed to have disappeared I wish we had some singers that have crystal clear voices so we can understand the words of the song they are singing....Okay styles and songs have changed over the last 50 odd years so its good job that "Edison" had a brainwave"!!!!...Oh yes forgot we do have a classy singer of today "Dame Shirley" of course...anybody got any other idea's!!!

P.S. This L/P is the best that Anne recorded  (IMHO)

Chris Connor

Chris Connor (November 8, 1927 – August 29, 2009) was an American jazz singer.

In 1948, she moved to New York City with the intention of having a glamorous career.Unable to find a singing job, she became an office stenographer. She spent the next seven weeks trying to secure any kind of singing job. Those weeks were quite difficult for Connor, as she was kicked out of the hotel where she was staying (for failure to pay her bill), and the hotel kept all of her belongings (including her winter coat). She met a man acquainted with orchestra leader Claude Thornhill's road manager, Joe Green. Thornhill was seeking a new singer to round out his vocal group, the Snowflakes. She successfully auditioned and joined Thornhill's group, touring around the United States and recording harmonies in the studio. Of her time spent with the Snowflakes, there is only evidence of her vocal contribution on two recorded songs: "There's a Small Hotel" and "I Don't Know Why", both performed in 1949.
In 1953, when Connor was singing on a live radio broadcast from the Roosevelt Hotel, June Christy (then vocalist for Stan Kenton's band), was listening to the radio and heard her. By 1952, Kenton had rotated several female singers as replacements. In late 1952, Christy returned to the Kenton band for some sporadic engagements. When she informed Kenton again of her impending departure to pursue a solo career, she remembered Chris Connor and recommended her to Kenton.
Connor auditioned and began touring and recording for the Stan Kenton band in February 1953. On February 11, 1953, Connor recorded her first sides with the Stan Kenton band. Her first song, "And The Bull Walked Around, Ole", peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard music charts. Other songs recorded with the band were "Baia", "Jeepers Creepers", "If I Should Lose You", "I Get A Kick Out Of You", "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen". By June 1953, Connor found the constant traveling and vocal demands of nightly performances exhausting. She abruptly left the Kenton band; and, by fall of 1953, she was back in New York. She soon hired Monte Kay to manage her impending solo career, and he found work for her at Birdland. One night after a show, the owner of Bethlehem Records, Gus Wildi, offered her a recording contract on the spot.
She signed with the label in 1953 and, in 1954, released dual LPs, Chris Connor Sings Lullabys of Birdland and Chris Connor Sings Lullabys for Lovers. At age 26, she became a best-selling solo artist for Bethlehem Records; and the label rushed her into the studios to record additional songs. Bethlehem Records released the successful follow-up album Chris in 1955 (her only full-length 12" album release for the label before her departure). Bethlehem released her other full-length LPs This is Chris and Lullabys Of Birdland in 1957.

Chris Connor died on August 29, 2009, from cancer, aged 81.
