The Swingle Singers
It’s good to have this “Live 1982 in New York” it helps bridge the gap between the original Swingles and the later ones from the 1990s onwards. Ward Swingle was still a member of the group (he retired in 1984, although he retained the position of musical adviser and sometimes arranger) and on the cover photo he is starting to look, well, maybe not like the grand pop’ of the rest (and the rest look like they’ve just come out of adolescence), but certainly as their dad. But it certainly isn’t something you hear, although, playing by ear (specific credits are not given), it isn’t Swingle who takes the solo part the long solo part in Stevenson’s Romance and the shorter one in Shakespeare’s song (tracks 4 & 5). Gallant of him to have let the spotlight to the youngsters.

Ray Ellington--Valerie Masters--Barbara Virgil--The Mike Sammes Singers
A "Music For Pleasure" release now from 1963..and it does exactly what it say's on the tin !! (Reference to A TV Ad) !!. it does give pleasure !...BUT I think that the writer of the notes on the back sleeve sells this release short !....Okay the music is about the music of "Jerome Kern" but he makes no mention of the content of the L/P ..only five lines at the bottom of the notes and the rest does tend to ramble on a bit !!!....I thought that the purpose of L/P liner notes is to review and inform everybody about the content be it good or bad !!
Saying all that I suppose I'd better make a comment about it !!
All the "Music For Pleasure" series are exactly that !!..and this one is no exception we have Three fine singers..shades of "Sammy Davies"....the great "Mike Sammes Singers" and a great orchestra...so have a download and make you own mind up....
Great version of "They Didn't Believe Me" well worth the download just for that !!

Carla Thomas
Carla Venita Thomas (born December 21, 1942) is an American singer, who is often referred to as the Queen of Memphis Soul. Thomas is the daughter of Rufus Thomas.
Thomas is best known for the work she completed for both Atlantic Records and most notably, Stax Records in the 1960s. Her first record, "'Cause I Love You" (1960), was a duet with her father, with brother Marvell on keyboards, that was released by Satellite Records, which eventually became Stax Records.
Thomas’ most famous single, "Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes)", reaching number 10 on the pop chart and number 5 on the R&B chart. While she continued to have success on the R&B charts throughout the 1960s, her only other solo top 40 pop hit was "B-A-B-Y," reaching number 14 in 1966......After her last Stax recording in 1971, Love Means..., and an appearance in Wattstax in 1972, Thomas slipped into relative obscurity when compared to her 1960s musical heyday. Lars Gullin
Here's some great Jazz sounds from the 50's..........sooooo if you like your jazz swinging and cool have a listen !!
Lars Gunnar Victor Gullin (4 May 1928 – 17 May 1976) was a Swedish jazz saxophonist.A unique innovator in Swedish jazz.
Lars Gullin was a child prodigy on the accordion. At age thirteen, he played clarinet in a military band and later learned the alto saxophone, but after moving to Stockholm in 1947 became a professional musician as a pianist. He planned on a classical career, studying privately with classical pianist Sven Brandel.
Lars Gullin, composer, arranger and baritone saxophonist (1928-1976) is one of Sweden's most famous jazz musicians. He was a new-minded man who in his compositions and arrangements and in his play added a new dimension to jazz. His music lives today, as strong and engaging as ever before. It is played and sung by both young and "old" jazz musicians and singers.
He was a major personality and innovator and in his playing, he brought a new dimension into jazz. Both his compositions and his superbly fluent baritone saxophone playing possessed a very beautiful Nordic, romantic sound tinged with melancholy. He composed jazz, choral music and classical music. Lars Gullin is regarded by many to be the last of national romantics....(Info Edited From "Lars Gullin Sallskapet") Plus (Wikipedia)
