The Temperance Seven

Ok time to get on that crazy carpet and have a windy journey back to "Blighty"...so will end with something a bit crazy !!

 The Temperance (Temperance? - ref certain album covers) Seven were founded at Christmas 1955 by students at the Chelsea School of Art, though the band mythologized its foundation as dating from 1904 at the fictitious Pasadena Cocoa Rooms, Balls Pond Road, North London. The three founder members were Paul McDowell (who originally played trombone), Philip Harrison (who originally played banjo) and Brian Innes (drums). Gradually the band evolved into a nine-piece ensemble with a light-hearted and humorous performing style.

Ann Richards

Another great voice that I have not heard before....well worth a listen if you haven't heard of her great jazz voice !!....definitely a 100*** (Star) recommendation

Ann Richards (Née Margaret Ann Borden, October 1, 1935 – April 1, 1982) was an American pop and jazz singer; she was the second wife of popular music and jazz artist Stan Kenton. She had a short but fruitful popular music and jazz career in the late 1950s and early 1960s as an artist for Capitol Records.....Richards created scandal when she posed for Playboy, subsequently signing a contract with the Atco Records division of Atlantic Records. The cover of her 1961 album Ann, Man! was taken from the photo shoot.

By 1962 Richards was in demand at jazz clubs all over the country, including Playboy Clubs due to her pictorial in the magazine. Her Atco release (Ann Man!) was an album of bluesy, sex-kitten songs backed by trumpeter Jack Sheldon and guitarist Barney Kessel.

Ann Richards, an excellent singer only recorded a few solo albums before slipping away into obscurity. Ann, Man! is her most intimate date, a quartet set with trumpeter Jack Sheldon, guitarist Barney Kessel, bassist Red Callender, and drummer Larry Bunker. Four of the songs (including "There's a Lull in My Life" and "You Go to My Head") are duets with Kessel. Richards shows off her versatility and sensitivity on this well-rounded set, swinging lightly and singing with restrained emotions. It is a pity that she did not have a prosperous career, for the talent was definitely there

 Richards committed suicide on April 1, 1982 in Hollywood, dying at age 46 from a gunshot wound.......Shame about that !....what a waste of talent !!.......(Info Edited From Wikipedia)

 Thought that I would give all you Jazz lovers out there a treat and include this L/P....it's another cool one a bit more on the "Jazzy" side than the "My Fair Lady" L/P but still worth a listen....There is more improvisations in the tunes but you can still recognise them....Andre Previn is a great pianist....The "Friends" only got together for the L/P sessions and from what I found out they only made 3 L/P's on the Contempory Label...

Not much info on this band from when it was recorded in 1988....I guess that this must be a buy from the Edinburgh Festival ...only thing I found was it was a Band from Bristol....and I wonder is Sweet Substitute are still performing....It's a Cool reminder of someone's visit to the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and worth a listing to !!...with some great tongue in cheek vocal's from Kate McNab !!

This L/P does not say who or what the Orchestra/Band is so I assume that it was made by session musicians...As you can see on the back sleeve it says " A Romantic Interlude In The Pacific"...so if you like Hawaiian Guitar music then this might be the one for you !!!

This is a bit of a scary cover !!...hope her name is not "Mary" !!
Anyway here is a selection of "The Stone's" hits by maybe a tribute band but who knows!!.. in the 70's there were a number of record labels that were putting out cheaper L/P's with cover versions by some very good sound alike singers I guess that this is one of them !!....I did do a search but there is a group called "The Collection" but I doubt whether its this one.!!!
So listen and take it as it was meant to be "A Tribute" !!

 Here we go again!!!..The record company's putting out "Best of" and only a few tracks come under that !!..saying that I suppose it's a better effort than most !...You have I should say 4 of her top hits and the rest minor hits... and an over produced messy version of "Unchained Melody"......glad to say that 2 of my favourites by Dionne is on this L/P 1 a top hit and the other a minor....I'm talking about "You'll Never Get To Heaven"and "Zip-A-Dee-Dah....pure magic the last one !!

Barbra Streisand.

Nice vibrant cover to this L/P....and "Barbra" has got complete control of her voice....a very different sound to her early recordings never the less excellent choice of songs.....The Back cover puzzled me for a while....I thought what a peculiar image to put on a cover even tho' it was the back... after a couple of weeks it suddenly dawned on me a slab of butter and a fly
"Butterfly".....Duh that's the title of the L/P !!! you can't see it very well but that's what it called.....She does a great job on "Crying Time "!!!
