12 Tops Today's Top Hits..320 Kbps

Here's a budget label from 1973 stating "Today's Top Hits"..WELL !! I think I must have been in the land of nod for 21 hours a day because I can only recognise 3 tracks !!...once again no credits for the singers...so I guess they might be session singers !!...doing a great Job !!
And of course For TODAY read YESTERDAY !!

    Does seem like they've padded out the hits, probably with some thrown together songs written by the record producer hoping to get a few bucks in publishing royalties. I haven't listened yet but I'm guessing

    Knockin' On Heavens Door - Bob Dylan song featured in the film "Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid"

    Hello there!

    Thanks for the share! I have two other 12 Tops LP's, Volumes 10 & 11 (this is Volume 16).

    Yes, these and other albums of the same type (Hot Hits, Top Of The Pops, World Top 12 etc.) did use session musicians to re-create the sound of the original hits, and rush the LP out and offer 12 hit songs for a very low price back in the 60's, 70's and early 80's.

    Once various artist compilations became more common and cheaper to make, these albums became unwanted and didn't sell anymore, and died a death sometime in the mid 80's.

    I do know that the teams making them never used songs which were not at least out at the time, but were usually in the Top Ten.
