Ella Fitzgerald..320 KBps

This is a 10 inch L/P of early Ella's....way before her move to Verve Records and all the "Songbooks".....I think there is a slight imperfection in the pressing of this L/P...on the track
"I've Got A Crush on you" if you listen very carefully you can hear the repeat of her singing it only goes on for a couple of lines... but it's worth a mention I wonder if anyone else who has got the album has also got it or maybe it's a one off....anyway its Ella and she can't do no wrong !!

Roberta Lee, born around 1922, was a singer from Dayton, Ohio. In the 1940s she sang with several bands including those led by Henry Busse and Les Brown. By 1947 she began a recording career and a solo night club act. She continued to have an active recording career until the late 1950s.

Albert Arthur Powell MBE (30 January 1900 – 26 June 1982), known as Sandy Powell, was an English comedian best known for his radio work of the 1930s and for his catchphrase "Can you hear me, mother?". He first said this in a theatre in Coventry. Fifty years later, deciding he needed a rest from the business (he planned a cruise around the world with his wife, Kay White), he again said it in a Coventry theatre, for the last time.

Randolph Sutton (born 24 July 1888 at Bristol and died Brixton 28 February 1969) was an English singer and popular stage entertainer in music hall and variety. He made his Bristol stage debut in 1910.Sutton was a prolific recording artist during the late 1920s and 1930s, and many of his records are of a suggestively humorous nature. While his best-known song was "On Mother Kelly's Doorstep" this was never recorded commercially, but private recordings were made and subsequently released on commercial compilations.

This is a double set of L/P's featuring most of Johnny early hits and some tracks taken from some of his other L/P's...There is only 5 tracks a side so CBS could quite easily fitted all the tracks on one L/P....but I recon the "Marketing Guys" though that maybe "Joe Public" would think that they had a bargain 2 L/P's for the price of 1!!!!....don't think we are that guilable or are we !!!!....Just a note "Where Do I Begin & If We Only Have Love" is recorded as one track

Shirley Bassey....320 Kbps

A great set of songs is on this L/P by Shirley everyone a winner.....not every L/P of Shirley's boasts of every song a winner... But in my humble opinion this is one of them!!....Maybe its because most of the songs are well known and popular....that does make a difference I am sure and of course the arrangements of the songs can make it as well...Soooooooo congratulations to "Johnny Harris" for a job well done...also I suppose "Dame Shirl" had her say in it as well !!

This is a 1969 recording with "The Athenians"and a very good one Nana's voice is clear and precise without the big orchestra's she sounds great....Included is her hit "White Rose Of Athens"....later I think she recorded it with a full orchestra and that the "Hit" version (I think)...all the tracks are great and her version of "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face" is one of the best !!

Johnny Mathis.

With the event of "Disco" most of the top recording singers decided to give it a go...this is "Johnny Mathis" effort !!.....Nearly all the L/P's I have heard featuring the Disco sound seem to concentrate purely on that "Strolling Disco Beat" as I call it leaving the singer in the background....but I supose it was a good "Bandwaggon" to get on at the time...and despite all I am saying some good tracks have been produced by different singers in the "Disco" Mode !!
And Johnny does some good ones on this one...Seems that the "Standard" songs are a good bet for the "Strolling Disco Beat"we have two on here "Night And Day" & "That Old Black Magic"!!......Not all Tracks Are "Disco"...some nice typical JM songs !!...notably "New York State Of Mind " !!!

Don McLean....320 Kbps

Do not listen to this L/P as background music otherwise you will miss a great set of lyrics on every song....he certainly knows how to compose the music... and the lyrics that make perfect sense and do actually tell a story so at the end of the song you do have a beginning-middle and an end....an excellent storyteller in music !!....Tho' the last track seems to have been recorded in a bit of a hurry !!....Take particular note of "Three Flights Up" doesn't get any better than that !!!

1. Castles In The Air
2. General Store
3. Magdalene Lane
4. Tapestry
5. Respectable

Dean Martin....320 Kbps

These are tracks from the 50's...there is no info on the back sleeve about them but I used to have a couple of the tracks on a 78rpm which as I said before "accident on my bike" which smashed quite a few of them...Also on a few of the tracks you have a sax doing a solo bit and I remember on the label the orch was conducted by a "Dick Stabile"and the Sax I think is an Alto Sax is featured on quite a few....I think it's an Alto it's not a "Raspy" sound like the Tenor Sax....Its like the "Sloping Sax's" of the "Billy May's Orch" !!
