It was released in 1968, and included the group's three hit singles including their number one UK hit, "Everlasting Love". The album did not reflect their previous success as it failed to impact the UK Albums Chart.

Byrdie Green

 Byrdie Green (1936 – April 26, 2008) was a jazz and R&B singer born in Detroit, Michigan.The daughter of a Baptist minister, she sang first in her father's church. Later she went to New York City and performed in clubs. Around 1965, she was hired by organist Johnny "Hammond" Smith and recorded albums for Prestige Records, Roulette Records, & Twentieth Century Fox. She also cut a few 45rpm records.

Byrdie Green (real name Bertha Greene) is a big-voiced jazz singer, today unjustly forgotten. Her father was a Baptist preacher. She made several singles and 3 LPs: "The Golden Thrush Strikes", "Sister Byrdie" and "The Stinger Meets the Golden Thrush" (with Johnny "Hammond" Smith). Byrdie Green has been singing around New York since the 1950's. She has a clear, forthright voice that can turn sly and cutting ˆ la Dinah Washington. She is a soul sister, and she never lost sight of her roots in blues and gospel music. Her 1968 rendition of "Return of the Prodigal Son" is the perfect mix of gospel, jazz and soul. Delivered with the authority of a preacher, and the soul of a diva, the story from the Bible is told, brilliantly. She allegorically uses this Biblical fable as a means to comment on the very obvious wealth discrepancy she saw all around her in late sixties America. In 1985 and 1996 she performed in the USA and all over Europe with Linda Hopkins and Maxine Weldon in a show entitled "Black and Blue".

 Hmmmmm...this L/P is so bad that it's good !!...in its peculiar way....there's a couple a really duff tracks with a saving grace of one good one !!..."Big G Man"...Nowwwwww if he had sung all the tracks like that one well my comments would be diferent !!.....This proves that you should always stick to what you can do best and singing is definatly not his forte !
But this was the 70's and he was in a very popular TV series "The Champions"......so "Hey lets make a L/P" !!!!!!!.......Comments Please !!!!!

P.S. Maybe I was being a bit harsh when I said "Bad" in the above post so I will amend and say So-So !!....its still good in its peculiar way !!!

If you are A Tony Bennett fan then I guess that this will be a must for you !!......These tracks seem to be got from the Columbia archives... I could not say if they are the alternative tracks that must have been recorded when you see and hear about (Take 1 Take 2 ect )and then they pick out the best one to make up the L/P !....but there is 7 Volumes of Rarities and Outtakes...So thats a hell of a lot of tracks that supposedly have not been released and available till now !

Some of the tracks are long and just accompanied by a piano so I guess they would be rehearsal tracks maybe that's where the Outtakes come in...anyway its great to hear Tony just with the piano !!....and definatley some 78's and Other Delights !!
