Carol Channing

Carol Elaine Channing (January 31, 1921 – January 15, 2019) was an American actress, singer, dancer, and comedian, known for starring in Broadway and film musicals. Her characters usually had a fervent expressiveness and an easily identifiable voice, whether singing or for comedic effect.Carol Channing's reputation was built upon her turns in comic stage performances. And Jazz Baby is exactly what you would expect from a swinging, jazz album starring the distinctive voice of Hello Dolly! The collection includes songs from some of her most famous Broadway musicals, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Thoroughly Modern Millie. The title track announces Channing's personal connection to these songs: "(I'm) full of jazz and harmony, 'cause I'm a jazz baby." .........(Info Edited From Wikipdia & All Music)

Eydie Gorme

This lady has the knack of singing that makes you think that it's as easy as pie to just open your mouth and a perfect noise comes out....She makes singing seem simple....BUT as we who can't sing and many people who actually can know that that is not that simple...You have to be born with a vocal voice and usually it takes years of hard work and practice to be a good singer....And BOY Eydie has just done that !!...she tackles these songs with hardly any effort at all making an excellent L/P for all "Gorme" fans...All the tracks are good and if you can read the back cover it gives you an insight to the songs..

Ray Anthony

Although the back sleeve says an evening for dancing...it's much better for listening !!

Raymond Antonini (born January 20, 1922), known as Ray Anthony, is an American bandleader, trumpeter, songwriter, and actor. He is the last surviving member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
After the war he formed his own group. The Ray Anthony Orchestra became popular in the early 1950s with "The Bunny Hop", "Hokey Pokey", and the theme from Dragnet. He had a No. 2 chart hit with a recording of the tune "At Last" in 1952; it was the highest charting pop version of the song in the U.S......In the early 1980s, Anthony formed Big Band '80s, with other members of the band including Buddy Rich, Harry James, Les Brown, and Alvino Rey.

Sarah Vaughan.

This is a great L/P from "Sassy"Recorded in 1960,Sarah is in the studio with a small jazz combo headed by trumpeter Harry 'Sweets' Edison and and pianist Jimmy Jones who provide suitably sympathetically support. She's in great voice and sounds completely at home with material that ranges from the jolly 'Have You Met Miss Jones' to the yearning 'Trouble is a Man' and the dangerously downbeat 'Gloomy Sunday.'......I got the L/P cover and the quote above from the "Net"......I gave the cover to a Friend who was a good copy artist to make me a copy of the cover....that was in the 60's needless to say I'm still waiting for it !!!......best track for my money is
"I'm Gonna Laugh You Right Out Of My Life"!!!!

Earl Bostic.

The first "Jazz" 78rpm that I bought when I was in my teens was "Earl Bostic's Flamingo"
of course didn't realise at the time that it was a Jazz Record I just liked the rasping sound of the Alto Sax...It was on a "Vogue" label and as I said a very brittle 78rpm and they did break very easy...I think it lasted about a couple of years before it got smashed up with a load more when I was taking some of them to play at a mates house on my bike and I fell of my bike and they shattered all over the road....didn't have the comfort of a car in those days !!...Anyway back to the L/P most of the tracks are well known songs and are all played in the "Earl Bostic" rasping tenor sax sound so no surprises there....best track of course is "Flamingo" which to me is as fresh sounding today as it was in the 50's...

1. Flamingo
2. Deep Purple
3. Always
4. Moonglow
5. Cherokee

1. Liebestraum

Caterina Valente

Now we have comparison that I believe shows that sometimes Vinyl wins over CD's

I managed to find Stereo versions and CD's of several Caterina Valente L/P's.. I Have posted one below "The Caterina Valente Singers" in "Stereo' which by the way is great.. an improvement on the Mono Version...BUT this one "Superfonics" seems to have lost its "Oomph"......or maybe its my hearing !!...be interesting if anyone has an opinion on this one.....saying that, the stereo is still good but I defininatly prefer the Vinyl copy....the track order will be Vinyl  first then the CD Version

1. Falling In Love With Love + CD Version
2. The Party's Over + CD Version
3. Boom + CD Version
4. Stella By Starlight + CD Version

        2. The Party's Over

Glenn Miller & His Orchestra

As you can see from the front cover this L/P is from the soundtrack of the two films that Glenn Miller made...Great to see that his line up at that time included "Billy May" and "Ray Anthony" both as we all know became "Band Leaders" under there own steam!!!!...included is two classic Miller tracks....great stuff love the "Swing " bands of the 40's & 50's !!

Peters & Lee.

On this L/P there is a version of "If" that is the "Gem"!!!....It equals some of the versions that are classed as "Definitive"..and that has surprised me !!.....On The first L/P that is on here "Dianne Lee" seemed to take a back seat on the vocals just doing the harmonising like a backing singer BUT in this one she definatly does more !!...and you can hear how good this Duo was....Its also seems that they have signed the front cover......They Split Up in November 1980 and Lennie Peters died of Cancer in October 1992...
