Agnetha Faltskog

Here's the blond girl from ABBA proving she can do it alone !

Eyes of a Woman is the second English-language solo album by Swedish singer and former ABBA member Agnetha Fältskog, and her eighth album overall. It was released in March 1985.

Agnetha Fältskog born 5 April 1950) is a Swedish singer, songwriter, musician and actress. She achieved success in Sweden after the release of her self-titled debut album in 1968, and reached international stardom as a member of the pop group ABBA, which has sold over 380 million albums and singles worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists in history.
After the break-up of ABBA, Fältskog found success with three albums and a leading role in a movie as a solo artist in the 1980s, though she became more solitary in the 1990s, avoiding outside publicity and residing on the Stockholm County island of Ekerö. Fältskog stopped recording music for 16 years until she released a new album in 2004. She returned again in 2013 with A, her highest UK charting solo album to date.

Diana Dors

Diana Dors (born Diana Mary Fluck; 23 October 1931 – 4 May 1984) was an English actress and singer.
Diana Dors recorded only one complete album, the swing-themed Swingin' Dors, in 1960. The LP was originally released on red vinyl and with a gatefold sleeve. The accompanying orchestra was conducted by Wally Stott.

Diana Dors came to public notice as a blonde bombshell, much in the style of Americans Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, and Mamie Van Doren. Dors was promoted by her first husband, Dennis Hamilton, mostly in sex film-comedies.
During the signing of contracts, in agreement with her father, she changed her contractual surname to Dors, the maiden name of her maternal grandmother; this was at the suggestion of her mother Mary. Dors later commented on her name
"They asked me to change my name. I suppose they were afraid that if my real name Diana Fluck was in lights and one of the lights blew"

Ok now back to the music "Diana" has a good singing voice and its a pity that she did not do more than this L/P which I believe is the only on she did !...or am I wrong !!
Dig that "Roller Coaster Blues" !!!!

Kay Starr And Count Basie

How About This is an album by vocalist Kay Starr and pianist and bandleader Count Basie, released in 1969 by the Paramount Records label.

How About This is superb because the song choices were smart and pop giant Starr  was really a closet jazz singer, as evidenced on Capitol's Jazz Singer (1960) and I Cry By Night (1961). Like Patti Page, Starr was a tremendous singing talent who wound up entangled in pop's netting and, for personal economic reasons, worked for bland producers charged with making treacly easy-listening hit singles and albums for suburbia. When she occasionally escaped pop's cage, Starr proved herself to be as good as any jazz belter. On this album, Basie's band wraps around Starr's bluesy, after-hours phrasing like a stole. In addition, Starr is firmly in charge; Dick Hyman's band arrangements wisely just tag along. What I love most is that Starr and Basie speak the same bluesy language. (Thanks to Marc Myers of Jazz Wax For The Above edited comments)

Cora Lee Day

Here's a forgotten singer who only made this L/P

Cora Lee Day (1914-1996) was virtually unknown when she recorded "My Crying Hour" in 1960, the only album in her brief singing career, before becoming an actress.
She bore a striking vocal resemblance to another legendary “Day,” the immortal “Lady Day” —Billie Holiday— but her voice still has that certain intangible quality that singles her out as a rare-find on the jazz scene and is sure to catch your ear. Under the direction of pianist Jimmy Jones and with a number of skillful arrangements, Cora Lee gained the drive and confidence to sing an engaging repertoire of fragile, moving songs in the manner that came most natural to her —soft and intimate.

The Electro-Sonic Orch Conducted By Dick Jacobs

Some great Stereo Sound.. if you have good speakers you will definitely hear the music separation !..and some different weird sounds !

Dick Jacobs (29 March 1918 – 20 May 1988) was an American musician, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, music director and an artists-and-repertoire director for several record labels (Coral, Decca, Brunswick and Springboard). He helped Jackie Wilson, Buddy Holly, Bobby Darin and others early in their careers in the late 1950s and early 1960s.He also dabbled in the possibilities of the newer technologies being introduced into the studio, and recorded the one album space age pop fans should look for, The Electro-Sonic Orchestra on Coral. One of the earliest popular recordings to use electronic instruments, The Electro-Sonic Orchestra went beyond the theremin and added the ondioline and modified tape playback effects to spice up a set of pop standards.

The Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ)

Concorde is an album by the Modern Jazz Quartet, recorded in New York on July 2, 1955, and first released that year as an LP, Prestige 7005, with liner notes by Ira Gitler. The album was reissued in 2008 as part of the Rudy Van Gelder Remasters collection.

The Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ) was a jazz combo established in 1952 that played music influenced by classical, cool jazz, blues and bebop. For most of its history the Quartet consisted of John Lewis (piano), Milt Jackson (vibraphone), Percy Heath (double bass), and Connie Kay (drums). The group grew out of the rhythm section of Dizzy Gillespie's big band from 1946 to 1948, which consisted of Lewis and Jackson along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Kenny Clarke. They recorded as the Milt Jackson Quartet in 1951 and Brown left the group, being replaced on bass by Heath. During the early-to-mid-1950s they became the Modern Jazz Quartet, Lewis became the group's musical director, and they made several recordings with Prestige Records. This album is the first to feature drummer Connie Kay, who replaced Kenny Clarke in 1955. It is also the first Modern Jazz Quartet LP conceived from the beginning as a long playing record; previous MJQ recordings had been released as 78's, 10 inch 33's or reissues of these formats on a 12-inch LP. The liner notes acknowledge the additional playing time of the LP format by asking the listener to regard this album as a performance set "at one of America's leading jazz rooms".
