Here we go again with some great tracks from my favourite pianist of the moment !!!..Folks if you havn't heard this great lady then give her a listen if you like piano playing and something different !!
Pia Beck was born in The Hague, september 18, 1925. In May 1945, Pia Beck was asked as pianist and vocalist in the Miller Sextet, with which she toured in Belgium, Germany, Sweden and the Dutch East Indies. Pia Beck decided in 1949 to quit with "The Millers", in which she played, to start her own combo. She started a band with guitarist Carel de Vogel, bassist Fred Loggen and drummer Nico Prins. In 1952 she visits America, where she plays in famous venues, like Birdland (New York), The Blue Note (Chicago), Dessert Inn (Las Vegas), Town Taverne (Toronto, Canada), Crazy Horse (Hollywood), Fairmont Hotel (San Francisco) and Harrah’s (Reno). She plays with Dizzy Gillespie, Barry Galbraith (guitar), Milt Hinton (bass), Osie Johnson (drums). She was one of the first artists who openly said she was lesbian! Pia Beck died in 2009.
